ABOUT MOLLY

Molly English is an abstract painter, born in Canada and currently living in North Carolina. She received her bachelors degree in Art and Psychology at Queens University of Charlotte. Her work embodies the elements of rich texture, expressive gestural marks, and simplified shapes. Molly composes intuitively to explore emotion and memory within and between each layer of color and through each expressive mark of paint. The surfaces she creates are excavated and distressed, yet they feel vibrant and alive. Her paintings invite you in, ask you to slow down, compel you to linger and wander through the vast layers of color and movement, evoking a private introspective response.

“I have always been a quiet person. Blaringly, glaringly quiet. For a long time I saw that trait as a flaw that made me less than - less interesting, less confident, less capable. It was through art and this intuitive practice of painting that I found a more authentic way to communicate without words. My voice became stronger and more clear with each stroke of my brush and palette knife in a language of color and texture.”
